We’re on our way to COP26 in Scotland…
Beginning this week, fusion will finally have a voice on the global climate stage.
Here at the 26th Annual Conference of the parties (Glasgow until the 12th), Prime Minister Boris Johnson requested fusion’s inclusion at the conference alongside other clean energy technologies and strategies for reaching net zero carbon emissions by the middle of the century. It is an opportunity we must embrace.
The promise of fusion will be on display in the public access arena, scheduled sessions, and at a panel in the presidency program, which showcases worldwide momentum and action. This high-level panel discussion will focus on the value of international collaboration, public-private partnerships, and cooperation on fusion development. ECG will be available throughout.
It’s a giant step forward.
Fusion has never been invited as part of a climate solution at the COP, and the addition of fusion in 2021 reflects both the recognition that much more must be done (if we are to limit global temperature rises as agreed in Paris in 2015), and fusion’s potential to significantly alter the fight against climate change. Fusion offers dense, consistent power generation that will be a critical partner in the growth of renewables—but we must begin now to implement an accelerated, strategic roadmap to support fusion’s development, adoption, and expansion. ECG is positioned to lead in bringing together each of the stakeholders and has made measurable progress in generating awareness, giving fusion a voice in the U.S., and in constructing the path necessary for fusion’s possibilities.
