Fusion IS That Transformative Change

The 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 30 November — 12 December 2023.

ECG is headed to COP28 in Dubai, where we have organized two experts panels with speakers invited from industry, government, and youth. The first, Developing Regulatory Paths for Safe, Equitable, & Rapid Fusion Energy Deployment, will be held at Middlesex University Dubai as part of Climate Law & Governance Day 2023. The discussion will examine the importance of compatibility in global regulations. The second event, Framing Fusion Regulations to Stimulate Acceptance, Diversity, and Equity in Early Fusion Markets, will be held in the ITER Pavilion in the Blue Zone. Both discussions outline the importance of ensuring that fusion’s lifecycle and safety are globally understood compatibility between regulating bodies, encouraging energy equity at the outset. Climate change requires big solutions that can benefit all – fusion is such a solution.

We hope you will join us!

Conference of the Parties or simply, COP, is a series of United Nations climate change conferences, which began in 1995. COP is the main decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and includes representatives of all the countries who are signatories (or ‘Parties’) to the UNFCCC. The goal of COP is to review progress made by members of the UNFCCC to limit climate change. COP happens every year, unless otherwise agreed by the parties.

The UNFCCC is an agreement between 197 countries of the United Nations to “stabilise greenhouse gas concentrations at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic (human-induced) interference with the climate system.”

During Climate Law and Governance Day 2023, ECG will lead a panel discussion.

Climate change requires big solutions which can benefit all – fusion is such a solution. The urgent need for scaling fusion manufacturing capacity now highlights the importance of a robust public health and safety framework to ensure transparent and climate neutral supply chains. What do we need now in order to create safeguards across a wide spectrum of technologies? How do we enable these commercializing technologies to benefit with parity from the start? Can one set of regulations apply to all?

The fusion sector is already transforming our energy landscape, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The sooner we establish agreement on its regulatory framework, the faster commercial fusion will join all renewable energy, storage, and grid technologies addressing the climate crisis. The urgent need for scaling fusion manufacturing capacity now highlights the importance of a robust public health and safety framework to ensure transparent and climate neutral supply chains.
